For the king!

For the King! was created during global game jam 2015. The theme was "what do we do now?".

Help the crippled king get to the door by using his magic to transform his followers! Because the king is not only a king, he is also a part-time wizard!

The king can transform his followers into cubes or other objects to help him get to the end of the level. (The king can stand on his transformed followers to create a platform for him, or whatever you need)

Game Design

Gameplay in general:

The goal of the game is to get the King to the next level. The player picks in turns which follower to use.

Then the player takes control of that follower and the follower can be turned into an object. All so the next follower (or King) can continue onwards.

Plan your platforming:

The player has to look at the level and come up with a strategy of what they need to finished the level. Before selecting a follower.

Throw the king:

The King is being carried but Strong Follower. But the player can also choose to throw the King to the doorway. It can be done as a last ditch effort. But it can also be as planned of course. It turned out to be a very fun mechanic, especially because the King is shockingly bouncy.

Score system:

The score is intuitive. Because the more Followers the player saved (not used) the better the player did.

Level Design

Content:

We managed to squeeze in 20 levels in a very short time. With lots of room for expanding... if only we had more time.

Several solutions:

Each level has several solutions, depending on how much risk the player is willing to take. Or how smart they play.
